Can you go strictly vegan for one full day?



Challenge 1-How difficult is it to be a vegan? Now that you've seen Cowspiracy, try out a healthy, vegan diet for one full day, based on veggies, fruit, whole grains, and legumes. Comment on your experience, noting what you ate and how you felt. Tweet a pic from your experience to #esslove!

Can you create a meal based only on local, fresh ingredients?



Challenge 2- Shop at a local farmers market this saturday and find ingredients needed to create a complete, fresh, organic, free-range meal for your friends or family. Comment on the foods you chose, what you made, and the feedback you received for your efforts. Attach the recipe you used.

How much do you rely on carbon-producing transportation?



Challenge 3- For one full day (from the time you wake up until you go back to sleep), free yourself completely from carbon-producing transportation, such as cars, motorcycles, and elevators. For this challenge you may not carpool with anyone. Comment on your experience walking, biking, skating, etc., all day without the use of fossil fuels. Tweet a pic from your experience to #esslove!

How much trash to you produce in one day?



Challenge 4- For one full day (from the time you wake up until you go to sleep again), carry with you all the trash you produce in one day. Comment below about your experience and describe how much, and what, you ended up with at the end of the day. Tweet a pic from your experience to #esslove!

Spring Showcase! March 2nd 5-7pm! (FOR 2-3 STUDENTS ONLY!)

Help prepare a showcase of what you have learned in ESS and show off various projects you and your peers have created! Then be present at the Spring Open House from 5-7pm on March 2nd to show parents and future ESSers the amazing work you have done!
Space is limited! ESS will be represented by only 2-3 students!

Vegan Party! (1st Period Friday, 5th Period Thursday)


For the Winter Vegan Party, please sign-up in below to either make a homemade vegan dish or purchase a storebought item that would be NEW and INTERESTING to try!
 (For example, I will be bringing vegan horseradish chix salad using Just Mayo and Beyond Meat Chicken strips, Tofurkey sandwiches, and Gimme Lean breakfast sausages)! 
Your dish must include an index card with YOUR NAME and a list of the main ingredients! All items must be strictly VEGAN!

On a Google Document, write a reflection of NO LESS than 500 words discussing the assigned reading from A Short History of Nearly Everything. It should first provide your initial opinion, thoughts, and/or reaction to the text. 
In addition, find a minimum of 2 scientific resources to expand on what you have read. Cite your sources in APA or MLA format at the end of your reflection. 

You will be graded on the depth of your reflection, grammar and spelling, thoughtfulness, and knowledge of the text and additional research.

To receive credit, submit your reflection to the Blackboard Bryson Reflections Journal by the due date.
