    This Ted Talk, titled "Hello Climate Change" discusses the main causes and effects of global climate change in a way that is simple and easy to comprehend. The evidence mentioned by the speaker that stood out to me the most is that, for 10,000 years the climate on earth has been relatively stable, but there has been a 0.8 degrees Celsius drop in climate since the pre industrial age, which can only be contributed to the greenhouses gasses that we have been emitting into the atmosphere. The animal agriculture industry plays a part in this issue because the pollution that is put off into the atmosphere by our attempts to raise and slaughter animals for food is doing nothing but worsen our climate change problems.

  2. Climate change is caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas. These fuels emit Co2 into the atmosphere. An increase of Co2 in the atmosphere traps more of the suns energy for longer thus increasing the temperature on the earth. Another factor of more Co2 is the large number of cattle and animals that are emitting Co2 themselves. If the temerature continues to rise then sea levels will rise, droughts will ensue in certain areas and we will have to relocate to survive. If it continues to rise even higher then some areas that have an average temperature of 80 degrees will have an average temperature of 170 degrees and it would not even be possible for humans to live there. Global Climate change definetely has the possibility to wipe out man kind. As the world gets warmer white ice begins to melt and turn into the darker waters of the ocean, This makes it so that less light is reflected off the earth from the ice but is instead absorbed by the dark water. This creates a snowball effect of global warming. If climate change gains too much momentum there will be nothing that we can do to stop it. We need to act soon in the next 5-10 years or it will be unstoppable.

    This video presented by photographer James Bolag discusses and shows sequences of time lapsed video images of the worlds glaciers receding and melting at a very alarming rate. This video shows through the use of pictures that 95% of the Earths glaciers are melting, and the only reason as to why is because precipitation patterns are changing and temperature patterns are changing. The animal agriculture industry plays a key role in climate change because we are raising enormous numbers of land animals for food—75.5 billion globally in 2012—which causes significant emissions of three of the most important climate-changing gases which directly corrolate to the disruption of weather, temperature, and ecosystem health.

    The Greenhouse effect has been well understood since the 1950’s. The greenhouse effect has had created a shifting in climate zones, it has created drought prone regions, and has led to rising of sea levels. If we do not act now, the earth as we know it will not be able to exist for as long as we would like to. Agriculture is a very large contributing factor in the creation of the greenhouse effect and the effect it has and will continue to have on earth. Global warming has a drastic impact on the water cycle and as a result the weather. Earth has an energy imbalance which will lead to higher temperatures on all parts of the earth including what is now ice and water. We have more energy coming in than we do going out.

    I really enjoyed this ted ed because it took one of my favorite games and applied it to climate change how it affects us all. In the video it talked about how carbon emissions have risen 40% and have intent on stopping or decreasing any time soon. I also liked the detail in the cause of this and that it gave you the history of the problem and that it was not always there.It also said that the weather would get even more crazy and severe. It mentioned one the biggest causes for this mentioned is the cutting down of trees for agriculture reasons. This directly ties to the animal agricultural industry which chops down our forests to make room for feeding area for the animals. In the video it talked about how the polar ice caps would melt destroying ecosystems and force people on the coast to relocate more inland and that life would be more difficult in general. But unlike a game of Tetris we don't get another try.

    CO2 is constantly being recycled by the earth. It’s released by plants, breathing creatures, and the ocean. The CO2 then leaves and eventually comes back to earth having trapped some of the suns heat that would normally be lost in space. CO2 can also be referred to as a greenhouse gas, forming a blanket of heat just above the earth. This greenhouse effect keeps earth from freezing. Although we may not have to worry about freezing we still have other things to worry about. Due to burning fossil fuels and cutting down forests simultaneously the carbon that’s in the air has increased by 40% since 1750. We burn all these fossil fuels with our cars and factories releasing even more carbon into the air. Then due to the deforestation our earth hasn’t been able to remove the carbon blocks as efficiently as it has been in the past. Our earth just simply can’t take in as much as we’re giving out, and this is causing more heat just above the surface. This problem then causes more problems as the excess heat the begins to freeze our polar ice caps thus losing the ability to shoot the suns rays back into space causing even more heat than before. All of this plays a role in the severity of our weather. It causes conditions to be way more extreme, and right now there's no stopping all the carbon buildup.

    Since 1750, the earths temperature has raised .8° Celsius. When carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere rise, scientists believe that the temperature will raise 1.5° C to 4.5° C. If it only raises 1.5° C, our globe is going to be fine and make some places easier to live in like the Arctic area but if we get the 4.5° C raise, some places in the world will be In trouble and the citizens will be put in danger. We can't bring down these severe temperatures because we aren't sure the climate sensitivity and how exactly to bring it down. The greenhouse gasses are released and have a huge impact on what our temperatures are on earth. Greenhouses gases are very well studied and known to what exactly were releasing into our solar system. A cloud droplet could not exactly form to protect our globe if there is no aerosol particle seed present which is why we must have these so that we have clouds above us. Without these clouds we would have no fresh water, the climate would be much hotter and there would be no life. If there weren't aerosol particles, there wouldn't be any existence.

    Since 1750, the earth has 40 % more CO2 in the air. Due to the greenhouse gas, sun light travels through warming the planet even more powerfully due to the bubble this gas creates around the planet. Unfortunately, our climate is suffering due to the lack of places for carbon to cycle on the earth and the abundance of CO2 that is being emitted. Something has got to change or soon there will be no ice caps and water levels will rise creating flooded country sides and immediate population loss. Animal agriculture can tie into this problem because "farmers" clear portions of the RAIN FOREST to make room for crops to feed animals that are mistreated and then eaten by the world. The more I think about this the more I am upset by it.

    Gavin Schmidt talks about how there are so many different systems that work together to form our climate. THey all work together smoothly and all heavily affect each other. But because of this, if one of those smaller systems is too change, we will see that directly affect our climate and our climate too will change. Animal Agriculture is one of these systems. It creates so much waste and uses so much energy that it releases these bad chemicals in the air. This can change one of the systems (the ozone) and completely change our whole climate as we know it. Because of this we can narrow our problems down to certain systems and truly understand what is wrong with our climate. But because we can only make models of the systems (because they are so big and we can't really cut them in half) we are never 100% certain of the solution. This slows down the process of finding how we can stop climate change.

    Asha discusses the importance of whales to our Earth in two major ways: pooping and there dead bodies. I thought the pooping of whales was pretty interesting because they eat food at lower levels of the ocean and then bring it near the top and dispose of it and then planktin then is able to use the nutrients from the whale waste to live and be eaten as the lowest level of the ocean food chain. Then also the whales migrate and move the waste horizontally to places that need the nutrients. The dead whale carcasses also provide for an abundance of food for many species to eat from. If this naturally occurring phenomenon continues then our ocean can at least have one thing that's left not destroying itself caused by human interference.
