This year in ESS, we will focus on modern global issues that threaten our beautiful planet. It will be the responsibility of this and future generations to find solutions to these problems through raising awareness, discovering new technology, rewarding innovation, and by passing legislation. This blog will reflect the voice of every earth and space science student in Ms. B's classes during the 2014-2015 school year, as they experience where earth began and where it is going.

In my personal experience of doing this challenge, I found it not as hard as I thought it would be to go without a car or elevator. Since I live in Coppell, Texas, a city where it is pretty small and compact, it was easy to ride around on my bicycle to everywhere that i needed to go. On my first day of bicycling around the city, I rode a total of 16.4 miles!! In bicycle terms, that is not actually that much but it still is a lot for me. I had my backpack on the entire time and it was actually nice riding around on my bike and seeing nature from that perspective. Whenever I went to school and back, I would ride on this concrete trail behind some neighborhood which was right next to a creek and forest. I was able to see many different types of animals including a hawk when was really cool to see up close. Even though cars are able to get you to and from a place faster than most non motorized vehicles, you get to hear and see nature from a first hand perspective. I really enjoined doing this particular challenge because I had not rode a bike since my middle school days so it was very nice to actually do this challenge for 5 straight days.
